The best outdoor garden lighting is able to give your garden a beautiful glow at night. You will need to be able to wire the garden lights. This is a difficult job. We offer great deals on outdoor light installation. You can do this project yourself by following these steps.
Tools You Will Need
- Outdoor lighting package
- Spade
- Mattock
- Outlet box
- Spray paint
- 4-in-1 screwdriver
- Adjustable wrench
- Non-contact voltage tester
- Stripper/cutter for wire;
- Trenching shovel
- Underground feeder cable
Plan Your Outdoor Garden Lighting
The entire project should take about a full day. The first step is to mark exactly where each light source should be located in your outdoor space. Spray paint is a good way to mark their locations.
Next, dig a trench connecting all points. After you've installed the lighting posts, this is where your wire will be hidden. Keep in mind that the wire must be connected with an existing power supply. The outlet must be GFCI-protected. Make sure the outlet is not too hot and the box big enough to hold the extra wire.
You should contact your local council to confirm that outdoor lighting installation is a notifiable electric work under Part P.
How to Install Landscape Path Lighting
It would take a lot of electrical knowledge to install outdoor lighting. We recommends that non-professionals do not attempt to install outdoor lighting. This is where the rest of your project should be if you feel confident in electrical skills.
- Assemble light fixtures. Follow the instructions to assemble your landscape lighting package. Open the box containing the landscape lighting equipment and follow the instructions for assembling it. Make sure all light bulbs are installed and tested to make sure they work. You should replace any damaged ones.
- Fixtures can be placed in their proper locations. Use your previous planning to place the separate lighting units at the locations you've marked. You might need to relocate them later. It is a good idea to not put the stakes in the ground.
- Connect fixture wires with a power source. Connect each landscape lighting fixture to your cable using either hubs or direct burial connectors. A hub system can be used to centralize cable splices within each fixture, making it easier to handle any potential problems.
- Make sure all lights are on. You can verify that all lighting units are within the 9-15v voltage range by using a voltmeter. For halogen lamps the voltage range is from 10v to 12v. Connect the home run to a tap of higher voltage if voltages are found below the minimum. The voltage will be within the specified range.
- Bury wires. You can then take care the trenches that you dug between your lighting bodies once you are certain everything is working properly.
- Night Evaluation. Although you can complete your project in the daylight, it is not possible to see the finished product until after dark falls. To achieve the best aesthetics, you can adjust most lighting fixtures to direct the light exactly where you want it.
This is just a guideline for how to complete an outdoor lighting project. However, it is important to have the necessary electrical and carpentry knowledge in order to complete the task on their own. Experiential professionals can help with the hard work.
